Finished Gouache Painting of Kikoman
Finished this gouache painting of Kikoman. I’m very happy with it. The reaction of everyone to it had inspired me to try a new project in “pet portraiture.” My dog has a spinal disease and his healthcare expenses have been astronomical. It seems appropriate that I could raise funds by painting others’ loved animals - seems purposefully full circle in that way.

In Progress Painting of Kikoman
Started a painting of my partner’s cat, Kikoman, as a gift for him. Its refreshing to paint animals again, as I haven’t had a reason so in a long time. I used to love painting animals when I was younger. Studying conceptual art took that from me, because there was never really a point for me to paint animals outside of for others.

Important Music of 2018 <3
The two most important albums of 2018 for me: “Friends. Lovers. Favorites.” by The HIRS Collective & “I Have Fought Against It, But I Can’t Any Longer” by The Body. Both such beautiful and powerful albums that really influenced my year.

Handmade Notebooks
Drew, screen printed, and handmade pocket-sized notebooks (including corner rounding ALL those corners) for my friends and select family for Christmas gifts. The theme was “Plants That Bring You Good Luck.” The plants were a jade plant, lucky bamboo, and basil.

Drawing Steam
Hand drawn Christmas cards for 2018. Right now into drawing air, or things that we only feel.

LOVE ME
Got a button maker. A dream of mine since I was a kid. Drew these cuties up.

Handmade Market at Metropolitan Brewing in Chicago
Participated in Metropolitan Brewing’s first Holiday Handmade Market. Made lots of things that had images I drew and screenprinted on at home. Lots of bats, of course.

Bloody Knees
Always falling, always getting scraped.

Kiki Smith’s “Near” (2005)
Went on a trip to San Francisco: a highlight was the De Young Museum, where we encountered this piece by Kiki Smith. It was easy to miss, upon seeing the text on the wall we look around for the piece, which was mounted on the extremely high ceiling. It was one of my favorite works of art I saw in San Francisco.
